Bosch hot water gone cold? Is it the unit, the gas or the water?
Before you assume the unit is dead, a few quick checks help narrow it down. They also help us send the right plumber with the right gear.
Check the gas. Do your gas cooktop and heater work? If nothing gas-fired is working, the problem is probably the gas supply, not the Bosch.
Check the power. Continuous flow units need electricity for their controls and ignition. Make sure the unit's power point is on and nothing has tripped at the switchboard.
Check the water. Is cold water coming through normally? Low flow from a partly closed valve or a blocked inlet filter can stop the unit firing.
Check the display. If there's a code showing on the unit or its controller, write it down.
If you smell gas at any point, stop, isolate the gas at the meter, and call us.
Bosch hot water error code showing?
Bosch continuous flow units flag faults with a code. It's useful information, but the same code can mean different things on different models, so we don't diagnose from a number on a website, and you shouldn't either.
Note the code, try a single reset, and if it comes back, leave it. Keep resetting a gas appliance that's telling you something's wrong and you can mask the fault. Call 1800 571 216, give us the code and the model on the label, and your plumber will arrive with a head start.
Bosch continuous flow repair: common faults
The faults we see on Bosch gas continuous flow units are much the same as any brand of this type:
- Won't ignite: clicking with no flame, or no attempt to fire at all.
- Lights then cuts out: often a flame sensing, gas supply or venting issue.
- Hot-cold-hot water: can be a flow problem, a gas supply that can't keep up, or a component on its way out.
- Lukewarm at low flow: the unit needs a minimum flow rate to fire, so a trickle from a single tap may not trigger it.
- Noisy fan or burner: worth checking before it becomes a failure.
- Water leaking from the unit: switch it off at the power point and call us.
We test the gas supply, water flow and components before we decide what's failed. Our continuous flow hot water repairs page has more detail on how these units work.
Indoor and outdoor Bosch hot water units
Many Bosch units are mounted on an outside wall, but some homes and apartments have internal models in a cupboard or laundry, flued to the outside. Internal units bring extra checks: the flue run, ventilation and access. If yours is inside and you notice a gas smell, scorching or soot marks, turn it off, isolate the gas and call us. Don't use it until a licensed plumber has checked it.
For apartments and townhouses with strata rules, we can work with your building or owners corporation manager on access. See strata hot water.

Bosch hot water and the manufacturer's warranty
If your Bosch is still under the manufacturer's warranty, check with Bosch first. Warranty repairs usually go through the manufacturer's own service network. For older units, or when you need hot water back tonight, call us. We repair and replace Bosch hot water systems as an independent plumbing business.
Bosch hot water replacement in Melbourne
If the repair cost is creeping close to the price of a new unit, the unit is getting old, or several parts are failing at once, replacement may be the better option. We'll show you the reasoning before we recommend it.
Swapping one continuous flow unit for another is usually straightforward, since the gas, water and flue connections are already there. If you're thinking about moving to a heat pump or another system type, we'll talk through your household's water use, utilities and running costs first. See hot water system replacement, and our guide on whether to repair or replace.
Bosch hot water repair pricing

Bosch hot water FAQs
Do you repair Bosch continuous flow hot water units?
Yes. We repair and replace Bosch gas continuous flow units, along with other Bosch hot water systems, across Melbourne.
Are you a Bosch service agent?
No. We're an independent plumbing business. For in-warranty repairs, contact Bosch first.
My Bosch works in the morning but goes cold at night. Why?
It may be gas supply. If the heating, cooktop and hot water all run at once, the gas meter or pipework may not keep up. We'll check it on site.
Can I relight a Bosch continuous flow unit?
These units light themselves when you turn on a hot tap, so there's no pilot to relight. If it won't fire, check the power and gas, then call us.
Do you come out after hours?
Yes. We're open 24 hours, 7 days, including weekends and public holidays.
Can you fix my Bosch today?
Often, yes. Same-day repairs are possible across most Melbourne suburbs. If a part needs ordering, we'll tell you how long it'll take.
